Compliance requirements for UK power strips are stricter than in most markets. The five checks below determine whether a product passes inspection and gains access to your target market.
01 · CHECKPOINTCompliance: BS 1363 & the certification pack
In the UK market, BS 1363 is the mandatory standard. Suppliers must be able to produce original certificates and certificate numbers on request; numbers can be cross-verified on the issuing body's website. The verification list:
UK conformity marking
Gulf UK-standard markets
Saudi quality mark
Quality system
Suppliers who cannot produce original certificates, or whose numbers fail verification, should be excluded at the factory-audit stage.
02 · CHECKPOINTFuse: BS 1362 rating matching
BS 1363 uses a ring-circuit architecture with the fuse at the plug: UK socket circuits run on a single 32 A breaker, delivering far more current than an appliance flex can carry — so every plug carries a BS 1362 fuse (3A / 5A / 13A) that blows before the flex is damaged, protecting the cord rather than the wall circuit. The fuse inside the plug is the core design distinction between BS 1363 and EU/CN standards.
Confirm three things at selection: the fuse is BS 1362 certified; the rating matches the lead's rating (13A lead = 13A fuse); and each socket on the extension has its own independent supply path.
03 · CHECKPOINTMaterials & build
Housing: two hard criteria — UL94 V-0 flame rating and glow-wire testing at 750℃ without ignition. Third-party test reports only; written claims are not accepted.
Copper assembly: every part is progressively stamped as a single piece with no joints, avoiding the contact resistance and temperature-rise problems of multi-piece assembly. Contacts in phosphor bronze or equivalent spring copper alloys guarantee insertion-cycle life.
Switches: rated at 10,000+ cycles — request the endurance test report. Below are the actual production parts: the molded base and the copper assembly.

Some low-cost products look fully UK-standard but carry no fuse inside the plug. These fail UK customs and retailer compliance checks, and liability lands on the importer if anything goes wrong. Opening one sample plug to verify the fuse costs almost nothing — do it before ordering.
04 · WORKFLOWSelection workflow: four steps to a model number
Confirm the destination market (UK / Ireland / Gulf UK-standard regions) and list the certificates the product must carry.
13A / 250V~ is the UK mainstream rating; size the fuse against the total load of the appliances to be connected.
Gangs (3-6), individual switches or not, USB output ports, cable length and gauge (1.25mm² minimum).
Open a sample plug to check the fuse, inspect the busbar workmanship, test the switch feel — then discuss MOQ and lead time.
